Overview

This introductory workshop explores consent-based practices for creating and performing intimate content for stage and screen. Participants will be introduced to practical approaches that support safe, respectful and collaborative processes from planning and rehearsal through to performance.

The workshop will provide an overview of the principles and practices that underpin intimacy work in performance.

Please note: This workshop is an introduction to consent-based practice and is not training to become an intimacy professional.

Who it's for

This workshop is for professional actors who create or work with intimate content for stage or screen.

Applicants must:

• be aged 18 or over

• be able to demonstrate at least two years' professional experience as either a performer or maker within their artform(s)

Why it matters

Creating intimate content requires clear communication, trust and shared understanding. This workshop introduces the principles of consent-based practice and offers practical tools to help participants approach intimate work safely, ethically and collaboratively.

Whether working on stage or screen, participants will gain greater confidence in planning, rehearsing and performing intimate content while supporting the wellbeing of everyone involved in the creative process.

What participants will learn

Participants will explore:

• creating the conditions for intimate content from audition through rehearsal, costume fittings and performance

• the principles of consent-based practice

• approaches to breaking down scripts involving intimate content

• planning intimacy rehearsals and closed rehearsals or closed sets

• observing and maintaining professional boundaries throughout the process

• communication structures for staging intimate content

• the role of an Intimacy Coordinator and how they can support a production

• an introduction to intimacy choreography and movement language

• crew briefings and communication

• closure, de-roling and self-care

What to expect

This workshop includes both discussion and practical exercises.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, as some practical movement work will be included.

There will be no nudity, lip-to-lip contact or performance of intimate scenes during the workshop.
