Staging Environmental Action: Rethinking Litter & Pollution in Scarborough
Would you like to build a vision and pathway for Scarborough’s environmental future?
Staging Environmental Action is a free, hands-on theatre project where creativity meets environmental action.
Whether you're passionate about the environment, curious about theatre, or simply looking to connect with your community, this is your chance to make your voice heard. In these workshops led by Toronto and Scarborough theatre artists, explore local environmental issues, learn theatre and storytelling techniques, and join other Scarborough residents in co-creating original theatre pieces inspired by the challenges and possibilities in your neighbourhood.
Explore 5 environmental themes relevant to Scarborough over a 10-part workshop series (each theme will be unpacked over 2 workshops).
The workshop theme for Sep 17 and Sep 24 is Rethinking Litter & Pollution in Scarborough.
How do garbage, litter, and pollution affect Scarborough and our wellbeing? What does change look like and how can we come together to catalyze change? Let's explore environmental action through movement, play, and theatre.
We examine this theme over a two-part workshop series. Registration is for BOTH sessions:

We strongly encourage attending both days for a complete experience.
No theatre experience is necessary! Just bring your curiosity, ideas, and willingness to participate! Workshops will be conducted in English - people of all fluency levels welcome.
Who can join?
- Youth, adults, seniors, and newcomer residents
- People of all backgrounds and experience levels
- Anyone interested in creativity, community, and caring for the environment
What you'll gain?
We invite you as a resident of Scarborough’s multigenerational, multicultural community to share your concerns and challenges related to Scarborough’s environment, imagine solutions to overcome current barriers to change, and discover how theatre can inspire meaningful environmental action and stronger, more connected communities. You will gain:
- Free theatre and storytelling experience
- Awareness and understanding of local environmental issues
- Skills in creative expression, collaboration, and community advocacy
- A chance to participate in The Green Tableaux - a collaborative cross-Scarborough vision and roadmap for Scarborough’s environmental future expressed through original theatre tableaus
- An opportunity to participate in future workshops to build your own theatre-based advocacy skills
- Free refreshments served at each workshop

- Our workshop series continues throughout Fall 2026, every Thursday, 5:30 - 7:30 pm, starting Sep 17 and ending Nov 19, at The Hub - Mid-Scarborough.
- Future workshops to be announced soon
- If you love what you experience, join us in future workshops (dates to be announced!) to build skills in theatre-based facilitation to advocate for the environment in your community!
