Stage Reading: She Too Bad for History by CoquieHughes
Join us for an exclusive stage reading of She Too Bad for History, a powerful new screenplay by acclaimed filmmaker CoquieHughes. This gripping narrative follows the lives of four dynamic Black women on Chicago's West Side during the height of the civil rights movement who join the Black Panther Panther party after being released from J*il.
- Shirley Steele is a tough, independent single mother whose arrest for shoplifting leads her to the Black Panther Party, where she finds a deeper purpose in fighting systemic oppression.
- Jacqueline "Jackie" Jackson, a street-smart hustler, initially views the Panthers as just another hustle but slowly transforms into a passionate advocate for community empowerment.
- Loretta Cooper, a quiet intellectual arrested for forgery, grapples with her fear of conflict as she immerses herself in revolutionary literature and activism.
- Johnniemae Davis, the youngest of the group and a recent transplant from Alabama, discovers family and strength within the movement after being wrongfully arrested.
She Too Bad for History is a raw and emotionally charged story about resilience, sisterhood, and the sacrifices women make for justice. Experience this live performance as talented actors bring these complex characters to life, offering a glimpse into a film that aims to inspire and provoke thought.
