Stage Combat Workshops with Daniel Levinson at Frog in Hand's Art Shelter

Stage combat - or fight choreography - is a specialised technique in theatre designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. It's widely used for stage, opera, ballet, film and tv. The best way to find out more is to come get a taste!

We've got 2 sessions for you to choose from, June 3 and June 17th, from 7pm-9pm at Frog in Hand's Art Shelter. No prior experience with stage combat is necessary. Both sessions will be led by Fight Master Daniel Levinson.

June 3 - UNARMED STAGE COMBAT
Let's dive right in! Punches, slaps, chokes - and that's just how we say hello! Once we've learned these basics, we'll throw in a little story and you will have a micro scene. If you cannot fight with your friends, who can you fight with?
June 17 - FIGHTING WITH COATS & CANES
In 1898, Edward William Barton-Wright created a fight form - Bartitsu - during the Elizabethen era. Bartitsu is an eclectic martial art combining elements of boxing, jujitsu, cane fighting and French kickboxing. We will shamelessly steal some inspiration from this form. Please bring a coat and we promise to supply the canes.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Daniel has been performing, directing and teaching stage combat professionally since his founding of Rapier Wit in 1991. Rapier Wit is Canada’s oldest stage combat school and production company. Daniel is also proud to be part of Fight Directors Canada, Canada's only country-wide, internationally recognized stage combat association. He is a Fight Master. As well as his work with Frog in Hand, Daniel has worked with The Stratford Festival (5 seasons), Canadian Stage, Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway, Volcano Theatre, Actors Repertory Company, Second City, A.C.T. Productions, Mirvish, Shakespeare In the Square, Factory Theatre, Shakespeare in the Rough, Theatre Aquarius, The Actor’s Repertory Company, Theatre Passe Muraille, The Tarragon Theatre, The Guild Festival Theatre, Toronto Fringe, Equity, and Theatre Ontario. Daniel is also proud of his years teaching at the University of Waterloo, as well as Sheridan, and the University of Toronto Mississauga programs.
