Josh Couts is a versatile jazz guitarist and educator with a strong foundation in the essential sub genres of bebop and hard bop. That foundation combined with his unique composition style and ever broadening approach to improvisation makes Josh’s music seem familiar yet new.
In addition to a formal education in music, including a Masters degree from Longy School of Music of Bard College, Josh has gained a wealth of knowledge and understanding of performing by being on the bandstand with jazz greats such as Bobby Watson, Curtis Lundy, and Vincent Chancey. Josh has had the opportunity to work extensively with Mr. Lundy including recording an album released in 2022 with him, Terreon Gully, and Louis Heriveaux. Josh has also played countless local shows in North Alabama with some of the best jazz musicians in the south.
In addition to composing, performing, and recording, he currently teaches guitar at UAH, Alabama A&M, and ASFA and enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons.
