America’s second oldest symphony orchestra—and one of its finest—presents an exploration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s music under the baton of self-described “bon vivant” Stéphane Denève. From his first symphony, composed at age 8, to Mitridate, rè di Ponto, a work composed when the prodigy was just 14 years old, to his “Paris” Symphony, which draws from the composer’s emotions upon the death of his mother, this is music from a master performed masterfully. The orchestra will be joined by Uzbek pianist Behzod Abduraimov, himself a prodigy who arrived in Kansas City alone at 16 with no English but with an undeniable talent, for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20. PROGRAM:
Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART: Symphony No. 1, K. 16
MOZART: Piano Concerto No. 20, K. 466
MOZART: Overture to Mitridate, rè di Ponto, K. 87
Anna CLYNE: Within Her Arms
MOZART: Symphony No. 31, K. 297, “Paris”
