To mark the centenary of St John the Baptist Church, Catford, SJB Orchestra, Chorus and acclaimed opera soloists present a landmark evening of music spanning centuries of tradition. The programme is centred on the London premiere of a rare oratorio by Sir George MacFarren, performed alongside a newly created orchestration of Sir Edward Bairstow’s extreramly colourful Blessed City. Also featured are Mussorgsky’s evocative St John’s Eve on Bare Mountain and Orlando Gibbons’ celebrated anthem This Is the Record of John. Bringing together outstanding local and international performers, this special centenary concert celebrates the rich musical heritage and enduring community of St John the Baptist, Catford.
