Every year at the beginning of October, churches throughout the world celebrate the life and ministry of St. Francis of Assisi by asking God’s blessing on the animals in our lives. At the Church of the Heavenly Rest, we celebrate St. Francis by blessing lions, flamingos, giraffes, and all the other animals at the Abilene Zoo! Join us at the zoo this coming Wednesday, October 2nd, at 5:30 p.m. for our annual “St. Francis at the Zoo.”
In our annual event, the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest will offer “Saint Francis at the Zoo," where the clergy of Heavenly Rest will offer prayers and ask for God’s blessing on the animals at the Abilene Zoo.
This family-friendly event will honor the example of Saint Francis and remind us of the ways we are connected to the natural world and to one another.
All are welcome for worship, fellowship, and to see the animals at the zoo. We hope you can join us, and we hope you invite your friends and family! This event is free and open to the public.
Please note that pets are not permitted at the Abilene Zoo. Pets may be blessed at Heavenly Rest’s “Blessing of the Animals” service on Sunday, October 5th at 5:00 p.m.
Please direct any questions to [email protected] or (325) 677-2091.
