Come enjoy a few of our smaller jazz ensembles typically comprised of our Concert Jazz Ensemble and Latin Band.
Directed by Ian Carey, SSU Jazz Combos are "themed" small groups of 3-10 students - some of the themes have included "Blue Note Ensemble;" "Funk/Fusion Ensemble;" "Hard Bop Ensemble:" "Student Jazz Composers Ensemble" etc. Emphasis is on improvisation and repertoire development.
Directed by Kendrick Freeman, the SSU Latin Band is a 5-12 piece ensemble with flexible instrumentation that performs music of the Caribbean and South America, with an emphasis on Latin Jazz and Haitian Folkloric Music.
