An immersive 5-day residential training program leading to the SRMBOK Certified Professional credential.
About this Event

This is an intense residential program over five days and four nights. It is intended for security professionals with at least five years of experience. You can expect to work 10 hours daily with guest lecturers and networking over dinner and into the evening. It is designed to be an immersive and transformative experience to take your security risk management understanding to the next level.

The SRMBOK Certified Professional exam on the fifth day is challenging but achievable and entirely optional.

The program, based on the Security Risk Management Body Of Knowledge (SRMBOK) is designed to provide security managers and consultants with a solid foundation for managing security in any environment.

The course is delivered as a 4-days of training and networking with assessments on the morning of the 5th day. The course runs from 8 am to 10 pm for the first four days. There will be homework and pre-reading every evening.

Accommodation and meals are included.

The timings for Monday to Thursday are:

  • 08:00 to 16:00 face-to-face group training
  • 16:00 to 18:00 self-study and assignments
  • 19:00 to 21:00 dinner with a presentation by a guest speaker

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course is designed for government and private sector security personnel, including security consultants, Agency Security Advisers, and Chief Security Officers.

The core documents for this training are:

  1. ISO31000 Risk Management Guidelines (ISO31000)
  2. Security Risk Management Body Of Knowledge (SRMBOK)

PRE-REQUISITES

The program is intensive, with significant prior knowledge and experience required. Attendees should have at least five years of security risk management and assessment experience.

Attendees should also be familiar with ISO31000 Risk Management Guidelines, and the principles of security governance, information security, cybersecurity, physical security, personnel security, and insider threat management.

To fill in any gaps, attendees may wish to attend our training courses on these topics before attending this training course.

AGENDA

  1. DAY 1 - Security Risk Assessment based on ISO31000.
  2. DAY 2 - Security Risk Treatment Plans - Develop, implement, and monitor complex risk treatments.
  3. DAY 3 - Security Risk Management. Reporting, leadership, incident analysis, and security plans.
  4. DAY 4 - Enterprise Security Risk Assessment and Management. The strategic approach to applying security risk assessment, treatment, and management across an organization.
  5. DAY 5 - 09:00 to 13:00 SRMBOK Professional exams followed by lunch to conclude the course.

ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION

Assessment is optional. The morning of the last day of the course will include a closed-book exam and an open-book assessment. If you are unsuccessful in your first attempt at the assessment, you will be given an assignment that you will have three months to complete.

Successful completion of these assessments will result in the award of the SRMBOK Professional certification.

ABOUT THE TRAINERS

The training will feature several presenters, including guest speakers from industry and government.

Your lead trainer and faciliator will be Julian Talbot. Julian is the author of several books on security and risk management, including lead author of the Security Risk Management Body of Knowledge and author of the Security Risk Management Aide-Mémoire. Julian's background includes developing and managing $60 million international security risk management programs, leading security and emergency teams of up to 200 people, as well as enterprise security risk assessments (ESRA) for organizations such as the Australian Department of Defence, Department of Agriculture, Water, and Environment, Australian Antarctic Division, Australian Trade Commission, and the $24 billion NW Shelf Gas Project. His clients include the United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism (UNOCT), Aspen Medical, IMX Resources, Australian Department of Defence, ACT Government, Advisian, and Woodside.

Julian is a recipient of the Australian Security Medal, a Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (F.ISRM), a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), a Fellow of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He holds a Master of Risk Management, a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Qualification, a Diploma of Security Risk Management, and an Australian nationally accredited Certificate IV in training.
