Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR/AED is intended for the outdoor enthusiast, coaches, guides, international travelers, and people who work/live in remote settings who want more than what an urban first aid course provides. WFA is a great introduction to learning wilderness medicine and basic life support skills. This training focuses on prevention, assessment, and treatment of environmental illnesses, recognizing and stabilizing life threats caused by trauma, and managing a wilderness emergency. The WFA course is 16 hours and primarily outdoors. We emphasize scenarios and hands-on practice during the course. Hands-on practice is crucial for skill retention and building confidence. Expect a valuable and engaging learning experience! We prioritize hands-on scenarios and practice, so wear clothes that can get dirty and come prepared to actively participate. Students completing the course will receive a Wilderness First Aid certification from Sierra Rescue International and an OSHA-approved CPR/AED certification from American CPR Training. Attendance doesn’t guarantee certification. Participation and skill demonstration required. Sierra Rescue International Wilderness First Aid Certification is valid for 3 years. American CPR Training CPR/AED is valid for 2 years. Includes adult, child, and infant. Sierra Rescue International Wildness First Aid skills and techniques are according to practice guidelines established by the Wilderness Medical Society as outlined in the Wilderness Medical Society Practice Guidelines.
