Join us at Liverpool Town Hall for the Dorothy Kuya Memorial Lecture 2026, one of the flagship events of Slavery Remembrance Day.
This special evening celebrates the life and legacy of Dorothy Kuya, educator, campaigner and champion of equality, through conversation, culture and shared learning.
This year's keynote speaker is Professor Anita Gonzalez (Ph.D.) of Georgetown University, an internationally acclaimed scholar, author and cultural historian whose work explores memory, performance, identity and the experiences of African diaspora communities around the world.
Drawing on her research into culture, creativity and community, Anita will share insights into how people preserve histories, build connections and create positive change across generations.
The evening will open with introductions from Michelle Charters OBE and feature a live performance from Blue Saint, alongside a traditional drum call to welcome audiences into this unique and thought-provoking event.
Doors open at 5.30pm, with refreshments available on arrival. The lecture begins promptly at 6.30pm.
We look forward to welcoming you for an evening of reflection, discussion and cultural celebration.
