On Thursday, November 7th at 5:30PM in the Winona Public Library, learn the story of Mary Rostad who joined the resistance movement during WWII, serving in Belgium and later France, as a courier of underground documents. Adopting the code name “Squirrel,” she walked over one thousand miles in frigid temperatures, far away from her home and her family to report on the movement of German troops. After the war, she settled in Houston, MN with her husband, Allen Rostad.Darryle Clott (a friend of Mary’s and holocaust educator), Dave Nelson (holocaust educator), and Mary’s children, Denise & Kim Rostad, will share this story. Mary’s book will also be for sale during the event.
