Please join us as we host DaiShihan Peter Crocoll! We’re very excited to host Peter-Shihan, as he has decades of knowledge and a genuine heart for studying Hatsumi-Soke’s Budo. Here is a bit about the instructor:
I have lived the Martial Artist’s dream having started my pugilist journey at the age of 11 with catch-as-catch-can wrestling. At the age of 18 I was introduced to Asian Martial Arts where I studied Moo Duk Kwan, Tiger and Crane Kung Fu, Tai Chi Chuan, Tae Kwan Do, and Ko Jo Sho. Being in Prescott College at the time, my teachers were always coming and going living their own journeys. Switching colleges I was finally able to settle down with one art, Wado Ryu Karate, for several years. Eventually an opportunity arose to study Aikido intensively on a work/study scholarship for 2 glorious summers in Snowmass, Colorado at the Aspen Academy of Martial Arts. While there I was also exposed to the Yang family style of Tai Chi Chuan taught by Marshall Ho and Philippino Kali taught by Danny Inosanto.
It wasn’t until 1982 when I encountered Ninjutsu as taught by SK Hayes at the California Martial Arts Academy. Later that same year I met and trained with Soke Masaaki Hatsumi in Dayton, Ohio during his first trip to the USA. At last it felt like I found what I had been looking for all along.
My first trip to Japan was in the fall of 1983 for the first Tai Kai at Yumoa Mura followed by somewhere around 80 more trips to study with Soke and the Japanese Shihan over the past 40 plus years. All the standard awards and rank followed culminating in Dai Shihan in 2017. But none of that was really very important to me. It was first and foremost always about the journey of learning and discovery in Ninpo and Budo, and also about sharing in those learning experiences with the amazing teachers and fellow seekers that I met from around the world on this path. After all, the Bujinkan is not a solo art, we are always learning from each other as we train.
