Himera järjestää kahden konsertin illan Ehkä-tuotannon Spring Roll -festivaalilla lauantaina 9.5. Nykytaidetila Kutomolla esiintyvät silloin Helsingissä asuva äänitaiteilija Heu Hsu sekä saksalainen trumpetisti, säveltäjä ja improvisoija Axel Dörner. Axel Dörner on yksi vapaan improvisaation ainutlaatuisimmista äänistä, joka on 1990-luvun lopulta alkaen kehittänyt täysin uudenlaisen trumpetin soittotyylin. Heu Hsun työskentely keskittyy paikkasidonnaisiin teoksiin ja esityksiin sekä äänen, materiaalisuuden ja kulttuurimaisemien välisiin suhteisiin.
Axel Dörner
Saksalainen trumpetisti Axel Dörner on yksi vapaan improvisaation ainutlaatuisimmista äänistä. Hän kehitti soittimelle omanlaisensa kielen 1990-luvun lopulla. Kutomolla kuulemme häneltä akustisen soolokonsertin.
Soolojensa lisäksi Dörner on tunnettu kokoonpanoista, joita luonnehtii soittajien ei-hierarkinen yhteistyö. Lukuisista kanssasoittajista mainittakoon John Butcher, Angharad Davies, Hamid Drake ja Monk’s Casino -yhtye.
Heu Hsu
Heu Hsun äänimatka alkoi Japanin historiallisissa jazz- ja audiokahviloissa ja huipentui käsintehtyyn kirjaan Sound Chronicle. Vietettyään kymmenen vuotta Tokiossa hän muutti Helsinkiin, jossa hän nyt tutkii äänellisten kertomusten mahdollisuuksia uusissa muodoissa. Heun työ on kehittynyt tilallisiksi sävellyksiksi, kineettisiksi ääniobjekteiksi ja performansseiksi. Hän keskittyy paikkakohtaisiin teoksiin sekä äänen, materiaalisuuden ja kulttuurimaisemien välisiin suhteisiin.

As a part of Ehkä’s Spring Roll Festival, Himera presents a double bill on Saturday the 9th of May with performances by Helsinki based sound artist Heu Hsu and German trumpet player, composer and improviser Axel Dörner. Axel Dörner is one of the most unique voices in free improvisation. Throughout his career, he has developed a completely different language for the trumpet. Most of the ensembles he is part of are characterized by a non-hierarchical collaboration of the musicians involved. Heu Hsu’s practice focuses on site-specific work and the relations between sound, materiality, and cultural landscapes.
Axel Dörner is one of the most unique voices in free improvisation. In the 1990’s he developed a completely new language for the trumpet. At Spring Roll, we will hear an acoustic solo concert by Dörner.
Dörner is also known for his ensembles, which are characterized by non-hierarchical collaboration between the musicians. His numerous collaborators include John Butcher, Angharad Davies, Hamid Drake, and the band Monk’s Casino.

Heu Hsu’s sonic journey began in Japan’s historical jazz and audio cafes, culminating in a handcrafted book, Sound Chronicle. After a decade in Tokyo, she relocated to Helsinki, and is now exploring the possibilities of sonic narratives in new forms. Heu’s work has evolved into spatial compositions, kinetic sounding objects, and performances. She focuses on site-specific work and the relationships between sound, materiality, and cultural landscapes.
