About this Event
The performance is conceptually designed around the theme of Spring Raga (Vasanta Ritu Raga), celebrating renewal, color and emotional awakening through the rich tradition of Indian Raag Sangeet. The concert will feature a unique selection of Spring Ragas, such as Basant, Bahar, and other seasonally evocative melodies that hold deep cultural and aesthetic significance in Indian classical music. These ragas are traditionally associated with nature’s blossoming and symbolize joy, love, and spiritual rejuvenation.
Alick Sengupta and Adrija Basu, known for their expressive and immersive style, will present a vocal duet format (Jugalbandi-inspired presentation). Their performance will explore both the individual depth of each raga and the dynamic interplay between two voices—creating a dialogue that reflects harmony, contrast, and improvisational brilliance.
The concert aims to introduce international audiences to the seasonal essence of Indian classical music, showcase the emotional and improvisational richness of Hindustani vocal traditions and build a cultural bridge through music rooted in Indian heritage yet universally resonant.
The presentation will include:
- Traditional alaap (introductory exploration of the raga)
- Bandish compositions set to rhythmic cycles
- Improvisational exchanges between the artists
- A concluding lighter segment that may include semi-classical or devotional pieces aligned with the Spring theme
Accompaniment will be provided by skilled instrumentalist tabla player Archishman Sinha Roy student of Tanmay Bose, ensuring a complete and authentic classical music experience.
Join us for an enchanting celebration of Spring through the timeless language of Indian classical music, where intertwining voices and evocative tabla rhythms transform the Tagore Centre, Berlin into a space where seasons bloom through sound and the soul of Hindustani music speaks to every heart in the room!
