Join us for an afternoon of live music, community, and celebration as we honor people and organizations making our communities safer and more just.This year, we’re proud to recognize three awardees whose work reflects what justice looks like in practice:
⭐ Star of Justice Award – Jeff Edwards
Jeff Edwards has built a career holding powerful institutions accountable and advocating for people whose rights have been violated. From litigation challenging dangerous heat conditions in Texas prisons to representing demonstrators injured while exercising their right to free speech, his work focuses on systemic accountability and meaningful relief. The Star of Justice Award recognizes that kind of impact—work that makes communities safer by insisting that systems follow the law.
🏛️ Pillar of Justice Award – Judge Hernandez
The Pillar of Justice Award recognizes leadership within institutions—people who help ensure the system functions with fairness, integrity, and respect for the people it serves. Judge Hernandez exemplifies that role, bringing a steady commitment to access to justice and thoughtful decision-making from the bench. This award honors the importance of having leaders inside the system who are grounded in the community and committed to making it work better for everyone.
🤝 Champion of Justice Award – Life Anew
Life Anew, led by Kim and Sherwynn Patton, has spent more than 15 years working on the front lines with individuals and families facing some of the most difficult forms of injustice in our community. Through restorative practices, violence intervention, mentorship, and direct support, they meet people where harm is happening—helping resolve conflict, reduce harm, and create pathways forward. The Champion Award recognizes that kind of long-term, relationship-based work that happens person by person, often outside the spotlight.

We’ll celebrate with live music from the Yes Ma’am Brass Band, bringing energy and joy to an afternoon built around connection, recognition, and shared purpose.

The Austin Community Law Center provides low-cost, sliding-scale legal services to people who might otherwise have nowhere to turn. We help families navigate divorce and custody, defend tenants facing eviction, support survivors seeking safety, and assist with wills, probate, and more.
