EXPLORING FUN IN TECHNOLOGY CONCEPTS: Build It. Play It. Gaming for the future!

WeCode KC’s Spring into Code is a week-long program that introduces area students to technology concepts and various software languages. Students will meet at 5008 Prospect Ave, from 5pm to 7pm every night of the week to work on creating their games! This year our classes will focus on the concept of building and playing video games. Students aged 7-11 will use Roblox Studio to build a 3D city for gaming; and students aged 12-17 will build tabletop arcade consoles and program them with a Raspberry Pi-based programming language.

Our instructor-led classes give students a hands-on approach to software development for students aged 7-17 years old.

These classes are hands-on workshops that focus on teaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced student’s technology concepts that are required for a future career in the tech industry. These classes are project-based so students are strongly encouraged to attend on a consistent basis to ensure all projects are completed. Additionally, parents/guardians are required to create the students’ accounts on the free applications and programs that their student(s) will use during class sessions. This allows parents/guardians full access to students’ projects in every phase of development. Parents are also encouraged to share their students’ projects with friends and family members to further support students’ skill-building and development.

JOIN US EACH DAY OF THE WEEK BEGINNING ON MONDAY, MARCH 20TH THROUGH FRIDAY, MARCH 24TH. Each day of the week, your student will work toward completing a finished game and on Friday, parents are encouraged to attend the presentation at 6PM so your student can show off their skills.

In response to the coronavirus COVID-19, we understand that improperly prepared educational institutions can put students’ health at risk. We take cleanliness and illness prevention seriously, and as such, WeCode KC will be taking the following precautions following the recommendations of physicians, the CDC, and directives from the City of Kansas City.

Our regular daily cleanliness and disinfecting procedures will continue as normal:

Shared surfaces disinfected daily (keyboards, mouse, tabletops, doorknobs, etc) Hand sanitizer readily available and encouraged for students’ use regularly throughout the day Daily sweep, mop, and cleaning of all surfaces Educating and reminding students about the best ways to prevent the spread of germs Washing hands regularly Sneezing and coughing into the crook of their elbow Minimizing touching of face, mouth, and eyes Student has the option to wear a mask during group collaborative time, transition time, and any time they are within 6ft of another student. Masks are optional in outside spaces and while seated, socially distanced from all other students.Additionally, we will:Require that all students wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer upon entering the building. Minimize activities in which students must closely interact.Minimize activities in which students must share objects. Notify parents and request immediate pickup for students showing symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath.
