Making flower crowns is a joyous way to celebrate the return of life to the world after a long cold winter. The practice has long been part of Western-European and British May Day celebrations, and in Scandinavia is most often pursued during Midsummer, when family and friends come together to commemorate the longest day of the year on the summer solstice. In this class you'll learn how to make the traditional Scandinavian-style flower crown, with a base of interwoven fresh green birch branches. With a variety of flowers in a myriad of colors to choose from, the exact style of the crown you make is up to you and your imagination! In addition to birch branches and flowers, wire cutters and pruning shears will be provided and shared among participants. If you have your own wire cutters or pruning shears and wish to bring them, feel free to do so. Class will be held outside, weather permitting, so dress appropriately. If raining, we will be indoors. If weather permitting classes will be outside at Nordic Northwest’s forested Fogelbo property. Students please wear long pants or an apron, close toed shoes.
