The Forgotten Soldier
Do you have a Solider that died in an accident while training? I do, these Hero’s won’t be on any memorial or wall. They aren’t honored by anyone but family, friends and loved ones, because they didn’t die in a war or conflict, they were killed during training. These are our Forgotten Soldiers.
The Kingston Veteran’s & Sportsmen’s Club has given us a place to install a Memorial to these men and women that were taken to soon, while in training for any future battles they would be called up to do.
After the M 60 malfunctioned on the firing range, it was taken off line by the Sargent. The Sargent didn’t make sure there were no live rounds remaining. It was given back to Peter to hand in at the armory, since it was such a hot, humid day, they told the guys to just give them in, no need to fire into the barrel to make sure no live rounds were remaining. The Sargent in the window rode the bolt home. It went off, it went through Peter’s chest and hit a Soldier, LCPL Mark Henderson from Kentucky in the neck standing 6 ft. behind Peter, both Soldiers died.
Please share this as much as you can, we are looking for Soldiers from Westmoreland County that died in any military accidents and not a war or battle. There is no cost to those that would like their Soldier included on the memorial.
The Kingston Veteran’s & Sportsmen’s Club has a yearly celebration for Veteran’s in October and we would love to be able to include the dedication of the memorial at the event this year. We will send out invitations to those that submit their Soldiers to our memorial.
