About this Event

Introduction to Sprang Workshop

In this three-hour workshop, we will cover the basics of working with sprang, a warp-only type of plaiting that dates back to prehistoric times.

First will be a brief introduction to sprang and its history. Then, working with sustainably coppiced bow frames, we’ll set up a small practice piece to learn the basic Z and S twist interlacing and how to chain off the finished sampler. We will go over finishing methods for completed pieces.

Next, students can set up and get started on a small project, for example, a small bag or hairnet.

Students will be provided with two skeins of arigumi cotton yarn and their frame so that they can finish their pieces at home if need by. Latch-hooks will be provided to students to enable chaining off the finished practice pieces.

No previous experience is necessary!
