Spoon Carving- an introduction into the lost arts of greenwood handicraft

In this course students will learn the basics how’s and more importantly the why’s of spoon carving.

We will cover the importance of the wood itself from variety, processing, storing and finishing-dive into form and function of the anatomy of spoons-obtain an understanding of tools used in spoon carving and greenwoodworkkng and the ever importance of a sharp knife- learn the knife grips to safely use a straight sloyd knife knife and hooked spoon knife.- each student will receive an already axed small cooking spoon and systematically use the class provided tools to carve a spoon that they will be take home to either put to use or finish on their own. extra already axed spoon blanks will be available for purchase for 10$ if anyone wishes to take for their own amusing at home.-students will receive a list of toolmakers and suppliers from which they can purchase tools as well as a list of respected readings and book recommendations if they plan to push their skills beyond
