Splendid Torch brings a bright, upbeat sound rooted in indie rock and Americana traditions. The Massachusetts-based band crafts songs with lush lyricism and infectious energy, weaving fiddle and mandolin together with guitars, bass, and drums to deliver a full sound rich with spontaneous energy.
The group’s four musicians—Lily Sexton (lead vocals, fiddle, guitar), Sean Davis (acoustic & electric guitar, vocals), and Josh Ballard (bass)—were once known as progressive bluegrass group Mamma’s Marmalade. The release of their new album last spring shows they are still going strong with their fresh blend of Americana, country, and indie styles.
With their textured and curious lyricism, collective rhythmic feel, and poignant vocal performances, Splendid Torch evokes their varied influences, from Emmylou Harris and Tammy Wynette to Kurt Vile and The Band, for a sound that’s all their own.
