“Being an artist isn’t a destination—it’s an Ithaca. You build the path yourself, even if you don’t always know where it’s leading,” states Nina Rancel. Born in Venezuela and raised between cultures, Rancel transforms the immigrant journey into a raw, hilarious, and deeply human theatrical experience. With razor-sharp wit and unflinching honesty, she lays down the road to becoming an artist—brick by brick—while navigating cultural clashes, identity struggles, and the absurdities of life in America.
Nina Rancel’s work has been showcased at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, where she earned critical acclaim for her fearless blend of comedy and drama. A seasoned stand-up performer, she’s also appeared at leading comedy venues across Los Angeles. In addition to her stage work, she is an advocate for Latinx voices in the arts, using humor to spark connection and understanding.
Namba Performing Arts Spaces partners with the Hollywood Fringe Festival for their commitment to diversity and bold, new voices. Fringe “opens the gates to anyone with a vision”, making room for some of the most diverse and cutting-edge perspectives you will find anywhere.
“Our SPLASH Festival is edgy, unafraid, and deeply human,” states Tamara Varney, Executive Director. “Like cool water on a hot day, these works can be refreshing - and like an unexpected SPLASH on bare skin, they can be shocking too. We embrace our finalists for their fearless portrayal of history, culture and the human experience.”
