Spirits & Spirits at Rose Hill Cemetery

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, enter Rose Hill Cemetery for a night of Spirits & Spirits in this fundraiser presented by the Washington County Historical Society.

Guests will enter Rose Hill Cemetery and start their evening at the "Caretaker's Party," where they will learn about the 1920s mystery, "The M**der of Maggie Kline," that awaits them through Rose Hill Cemetery. Guests will proceed through the cemetery, sipping spirits and meeting with spirits who will share with them clues to solving the evening's mystery. Will you be able to enter the Mausoleum? Will you be able to solve the mystery of Maggie Kline's death before the sun sets?

Guests should prepare to spend approximately 90 minutes to two hours walking through Rose Hill Cemetery, sipping cocktails, sampling refreshments, and meeting with actors along the way in this live historical theatre event! Featuring live music at the "Caretaker's Party," near the Rose Hill Cemetery Office. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. ID required for guests 21 years or older who will be sipping spirits.

This event is proudly sponsored by the City of Hagerstown and features actors from ACT Black Box Studio. All proceeds benefit the Washington County Historical Society of Hagerstown, MD. 1920s attire is encouraged but not necessary; we would love for you to dress up, but wear comfortable shoes!

A note regarding the history and fiction behind Spirits & Spirits:

The WCHS acknowledges the sacred space of Rose Hill Cemetery and the dignity of all those who are buried there. The four characters portrayed by actors during Spirits & Spirits were real historical people who are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. We hope this event brings their stories to life and shares their legacies with the community. In an effort to not exploit real tragedy, this event features a fictional victim.

Tickets cost $50.00 and include:

• 2 themed cocktails and/or a choice of beer or wine
• Refreshments and dessert
• Entry into a raffle that will be awarded at 7 PM (winner contacted if not present)

Parking and Terrain at Rose Hill Cemetery:

• Parking will be available along South Potomac Street and other local streets in the area; parking is free to the public on Saturdays. Parking will also be available inside Rose Hill Cemetery by entering along E Memorial Boulevard into the "Legend of the Dogwood Section" in the cemetery.
• All walking through the cemetery will be along paved roads and accessible for wheelchairs. The Mausoleum does feature a short set of steps and is not wheelchair accessible. WCHS staff will be available to assist as needed.

In the Event of Rain:

• This event will be held rain or shine, with tents provided for actors, food, bars, and musicians; guests are encouraged to bring umbrellas if the forecast calls for rain. In the event of severe weather, the WCHS will announce event cancellation and contact attendees.
