For spinners who’ve mastered the 2-ply and are ready to explore the expressive edge of fibre, this workshop is your invitation to experiment, refine, and play.
Held at Fleecewood, Anne’s tranquil farmlet in the Wai-iti Valley, you’ll begin by learning how to guide the wool—spinning with intention, not just instinct. Discover how to control yarn thickness, texture, and twist to match your creative vision.
✨ What You’ll Explore:
- Precision spinning: impose your wishes on the wool, not the other way around
- Novelty yarns: experiment with spiral spinning, shaggy textures, core spinning, bouche, rat’s tails, and more
- Plying & binding techniques: learn how to add structure, whimsy, and strength to your yarns
- Hands-on practice: spin and take home several skeins of your own experimental yarns
This is a day of joyful exploration—perfect for fibre artists, textile designers, and curious makers who want to push past the predictable and into the poetic.

• Spinning wheels available, or bring your own
