Learn the basic workings of charka wheels, how to adjust a charkha, to spin and ply, and tips and tricks for advanced spinning on a chakra.
Dates: Friday, Sept. 27 10am-3pm. Ticket: $60. Instructor: Pat Maley. Materials fee $10 cash or check only. Skills Needed: Advanced beginner -Students must be able to spin a continuous yarn.. Class Limit: 5.
A Charkha wheel can be as small as a book or as large as a briefcase or table top wheel. It uses a wheel driven spindle and is very portable. In this class learn the basic workings of charka wheels, how to adjust a charkha, how to spin and ply on a charkha, and tips and tricks for advanced spinning on a charkha. This is NOT a learn to spin class.
Equipment Students Bring:
-Any style Charkha spinning wheel in working order. There are wheels available, if you need one. Please let the instructor know if you have a charkha or need one.
- IF you are bringing your own wheel. A lazy kate that will hold 5 inch paper quills or a shoe box and knitting needles.
-Two LARGE C clamps that will fit plastic tables
-materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. Cash or check only accepted.
-Your lunch and beverages

Questions about this class? Contact the instructor, Pat Maley at [email protected]. Pat has been spinning and weaving since the late 1960’s. She has been certified by Handweavers Guild of America as a Master Spinner, having completed both levels of the program. She frequently demonstrates spinning, weaving and dyeing at historical venues and pioneer festivals. She has been teaching all types of spinning at the Weaver’s Guild since the late 1980’s.
If you are not feeling well, please contact the instructor instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. Ticket fees are not normally refunded.
Depending on the CDC guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.
Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at [email protected] for permission before registering any minor in a class.
Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
