Join us on Saturday, May 4 for a different sort of workshop to help you understand your body better.

SCHEDULE
3:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Spine Health: Unlocking secrets of the spine for pain-free dancing thru the Franklin Method
The Franklin Method is an evidence-based therapeutic approach using mental imagery, movement and awareness to improve posture, movement and well-being. Come learn the techniques and skills taught at Julliard, Cirque du Soleil and other top dance schools around the world to teach their students how to feel great in their bodies with endless hours of dancing.
This workshop will focus on understanding the spine, which we use a lot in Brazilian zouk. We'll learn how the spine functions and how to enhance your mobility in all directions we can move it. You'll walk away learning how to prepare your spine for fluid movement, be able to identify how to ease pain and pressure on your own, and learn ways to recover from nights of dancing.
To make the most of the session, please bring either a resistance band or a towel.

LEVEL
Open to all levels of movers and those from different dance backgrounds. What you learn will be applicable to Brazilian zouk as well as other dances.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Alex Maradey started her dance journey in 2007 when she got some friends together for a weekly Lindy hop class. She fell in love and started taking ballroom dance classes, quickly followed by West Coast Swing, and Blues, dancing the nights away and taking as much training as she could. Alex has been a west coast swing teacher since 2014, is an Advanced Jack N Jill competitor, and has trained privately with many top West Coast Swing instructors around the world. Thru this training she was introduced to Zouk via Larissa Frisbee and fell in love instantly with the connection, fludity and music. She immersed herself in this style, learning from District Zouk and traveling to continue her education thru various festivals, training courses and immerisons at ZoukMX and in Hawaii. In 2022, she was introduced to the Franklin Method after a major injury broke a few bones in her foot. She was able to learn directly from Eric Franklin, the founder in groundbreaking dance training for the past 30 years. Through learning the Franklin Method, she was able to fully heal and to understand and gain control of her body in entirely new ways. She specializes in teaching body mechanics, making them easy for students to pick up and apply right away to their everday movements, as well as social dancing for comfort and ease.
