About this Event

Please join us for a speech and in-depth analysis of the current state of the Tech War between the US and China, and Europe's potential positioning in relation to it.

The world's superpowers, China and the United States, are competing for technical dominance in new ways. Artificial intelligence, superchips and computers, new pharmaceuticals, self-driving automobiles, and missions to the moon and Mars are the most well-known factors. But killer drones and combat robots, for example, push this race into even more complex arenas. In several of these new technologies, China has made significant advances in recent years and is now on par with the still-dominant United States. Can Europe stand up to this duel, or are they merely spectators?

We have invited Wolfgang Hirn, former correspondent at Manager Magazine, to address these questions in a speech on his latest research for his upcoming book. Former American Club Board Member, Björn Ognibeni will moderate the event with a Q&A session after the speech.

Mr. Hirn studied economics and political science in Tübingen, and after stints as an economic editor, he became a correspondent at Manager Magazine. Since 1986, he has regularly traveled to China and authored multiple books on the topic, including the bestseller China Challenge and most recently, Chinas Bosses and Shenzhen - The Global Economy of Tomorrow. He is the editor of the CHINAHIRN newsletter (www.chinahirn.de) and lives in Berlin.
