WHAT'S UP?
Speculative Design is no more a curious exploration in the design world, but is becoming an absolutely practical and essential part of design practice in many organisations. This is because the world we are designing within is changing faster than we could have ever imagined. New technologies, social and cultural movement, climate breakdown, political shifts, are all disrupting our world in ways we could not have believed just a few years ago. Speculative Design is now a critical component for businesses and governments to understand the future, better prepare for it, and create new value today.
HOW?
Theory & Frames. You will understand the important concepts behind speculative design practice.
Case Studies. You will review examples of speculative design in industry from companies like Google, the UK Government, Microsoft, & Ikea.
Tools & Methods. You will learn essential tools of speculative design. You'll experience Signals, Future Wheel, Scenarios, Future Prototyping, Implications Pie, Backcasting, and Critical Strategy.
Live Example. You will design the future, by going through the speculative design process with a live brief.
Creating Impact. You will learn how speculative design can have a radical impact on organisational strategy and product / service development today.
Ethical Imperative. You will explore your responsibilities to the future and why all organisations should be spending more time with Speculative Design.
You will leave the workshop in a position to start doing speculative design work, or to radically improve your existing futures activities. The workshop will be held in English.
FOR WHOM?
This workshop will be particularly useful for service designers, service owners, and public servants with an innovation mandate. It is for people looking to extend their design capabilities to work toward more long-term value creation.
WHO?
Speculative Design Introduction Workshop is led by J. Paul Neeley.
J. Paul has spent the past decade using Speculative Design in organisational settings, with business and governments, and in this workshop you'll learn how to use the practice to create meaningful impact.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Participating fee for the workshop is 340 euros + VAT. The fee includes coffee breaks and lunch.
The workshop is part of the Design Thinking Tallinn program and is supported by Helmes.
