We are thrilled to welcome Lya in Ottawa! “From the Floor to the Embrace” - The secret of grounding and to connect to each other through the embrace. There is a big difference between just “moving at the same time” versus a real connection between the bodies! Let’s discover that with Lya. Together with Ivan, they will take you on a journey to deepen your passion for Tango. You will have the chance to elevate your technical proficiency, enhance your musicality, and unleash your creativity as a dancer, feeling more grounded and connected. Join us for a VERY special Milonga and Show evening with Ivan and Lya on Friday, May 3rd, at 8:15PM. Welcoming everyone to join us for a fabulous evening!

About Lya:
Lya Elcagu. In 2009 Lya started to dance Tango, when she happened to see a street performance in San Telmo, Buenos Aires. Immediately she felt a strong connection to this wordless and deep dance. In 2012 she moved to Buenos Aires to study dance, understand more about the culture and to soak up tango. Within a few years, she was teaching tango professionally at the DNI Tango School in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which was one of the most respected Argentine tango schools in the world. She danced in show productions created by the school's director and internationally recognized choreographer Dana Frigoli and later Melina Brufman for the DNI Tango Company and performed in Milongas in Buenos Aires and on international tours abroad. Nowadays Lya is an internationally renowned Argentine tango instructor and performer. She has competed in prestigious professional Argentine Tango competitions with great success, placing as a Semifinalist in the Campeonato de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires 2023 and a Finalist in the Campeonato para Mujeres en el rol Conductor 2018. 11:00am - 5:00pm: Private Lessons
7:00 - 8:00pm: General Fundamentals & Yeites for all levels (Level 1) - In this class, we will focus on improving coordination and communication of movements. We will learn how to use the floor to enhance our connection and coordination, and develop our spatial awareness to move together smoothly and musically. This Class Series is essential if you want to take your tango skills to the next level!
8:00 - 9:15pm: Circular Movements - This is your secret for a reduced dance space. We will discover how to create inner movements to generate space and comfort in our embrace. A must have tool for Tango Argentino!
9:15 - 10:30pm: Practice

6:15 - 7:45pm: Follower Technique Class - This class is to take you on a journey to cultivate an understanding of the intricate interplay between connection, creativity & musicality. With that we can keep unlocking our dance and new levels of improvisation, feel more confident and playful in the moment of dancing with one another.

7:00 - 8:15pm: Joyful Sacadas - You will not just learn Sacadas, you will fall in love with the possibilities they offer for your dance!This typical move of Tango Argentina is a must to have and fun to play with.

4:30 - 6:00pm: Fun Boleos - It’s just fascinating how many Boleos exist. Learn to lead and follow some of them in a smooth and comfortable way!
