In September 2018, archaeologists Irini Malliaros and Paul Hundley from the Silentworld Foundation and Kieran Hosty and Dr James Hunter from the Museum were invited to participate in the excavation and archaeological recovery of an early 19th century timber boat that had been discovered at the site of the proposed Sydney Metro Barangaroo Station.Believed to be Australia’s earliest known colonial built vessel the Barangaroo Boat was subsequently conserved by Sydney Metro and will in the coming years be reassembled and displayed at the Museum.
Kieran Hosty, Manager, Maritime Archaeology Program at the Museum along with Heather Berry, conservator, Silentworld Foundation will discuss the intriguing story around the boat and its subsequent conservation and reconstruction.
