The Milwaukee Youth Poet Laureate Finals will take place in person at the Milwaukee Central Library, Centennial Hall (733 N. 8th St., Milwaukee, WI 53233).https://woodlandpattern.org/events/milwaukee-youth-poet-laureate-finals-2025
Join us as we name Milwaukee’s third Youth Poet Laureate! Emceed by Angie Trudell Vasquez, the program will feature performances by our three finalists, Ilysium Nollie (any pronouns) from Tenor High School (11th grade), Oscar Anwaatin O’Naughton-Whitefeather (he/him) from Reagan High School (11th grade), Angela Wang (she/her) University School of Milwaukee (11th grade). With an appearance and reading by the current Milwaukee Youth Poet Laureate, Aleena Ahmed.
Judges for this year’s competition include poet and Founder and Artistic Director of My Sista’s KeepHer Tina Nixon, poet and 2023–24 Milwaukee Emerging Poet Fellow Tasneem Jassar, and Poetry Editor of Cream City Review and PhD candidate in Creative Writing at UW–Milwaukee Cass Bruner.
