Speaker Series: Safe Space by Alyssa Huynh

Join activist and writer Alyssa Huynh in conversation with Erin Wen Ai Chew as they explore how to navigate racism and the challenges of growing up Asian in Australia.

ALYSSA HUYNH is a freelance writer in Melbourne. She began writing as a child inspired by her trips to the library with her late grandfather. Alyssa offers practical advice both to those who are victims of racism and wish to add their voice to the discourse or deepen their connection to their cultural identities and to allies who want to learn more about how they can meaningfully show their support.

ERIN WEN AI CHEW is a social entrepreneur, freelance writer and social activist focusing on issues impacting on the Asian diaspora. Erin founded the Asian Australian Alliance back in 2013 as a way to include the Asian Australian voice in the mainstream and create a platform for change. Her organisation ran an Australian wide COVID-19 Racism Incident survey, which has garnered over 1000 responses in Australia. More recently, the Asian Australian Alliance are the architects for the #stopasianhate Australian campaign which was a collaboration with GoFundMe Australia. Erin is also the chief editor for media website Being Asian Australian, and the Founder of media and publishing house company FlixAsia. Erin sits on the advisory group for the proposed National Anti-Racism Framework proposed by the Australian Government under the auspices of the Australian Human Rights Commission, and also sits on the board for Western Sydney University's anti-racism project advisory committee. In 2021, Erin was a recipient for the 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian Australians.
