Meg Cabot was born in Bloomington, Indiana during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign, but learned at an early age that a good storyteller can always give herself a happy ending.
Her 100+ books have included multiple #1 New York Times bestsellers. Her Princess Diaries series has been published in more than 38 countries, and despite being made into multiple feature films by Disney, has been banned in multiple school libraries in the United States due to its message of female empowerment. Meg’s other award-winning books include The Mediator series, The Witches of West Harbor series, and Avalon High. Meg currently lives in Key West with her husband and various cats. Her latest book is Kissing Cowboys.

More than 25 years ago the Friends of the Library Speaker Series began. Now it is our most popular offering by far. We have had the great pleasure of hosting many phenomenal authors including Judy Blume, Ann Cleeves, S.A. Cosby, Fiona Davis, Sam Sifton, Carl Hiassen, Tom Perrotta, and many more.
Our 2027 Speaker Series kicks off on Monday, January 11, with Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Marie Howe, sponsored by the Key West Literary Seminar. Speakers continue every Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. through March 15, in the Palm Garden.
These events are not ticketed, except for the February 8 Annual Gala. Guests are seated on a first-come, first-seated basis. We generally can accommodate everyone. Gates open at 5:30. In the event of rain, the event will take place inside the library.
