We are pleased to announce a four-part speaker series designed to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Downtown Greenway. The second session will be held on Thursday, May 7 from 5:30-7 pm at the Greensboro History Museum (130 Summit Avenue), featuring Dennis Markatos-Soriano, Executive Director of the East Coast Greenway. Dennis will talk about the value of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and the importance of the Downtown Greenway within this larger system. Dennis has served as executive director of the East Coast Greenway since 2009. He and a staff of 16 work alongside volunteers, partners and elected officials to complete the 3,000-mile Maine-to-Florida greenway and promote its use.
All are welcome! Come discover how regional trail networks connect communities and support healthier, more active lifestyles. You will also gain insight into how long-distance trail systems drive economic development, tourism, and environmental stewardship in the communities they serve. Learn how the East Coast Greenway is working to create a safe, accessible route for people of all ages and abilities to walk, bike, and explore - similar to what the Downtown Greenway now provides for Greensboro.
