About The Talent...

Chico and The Fam is a Funk band with some hints of Hip Hop and Latin grooves. Band leader Chico Lopez comes from a musical family. As a kid he grew up listening to Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, Steely Dan , Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, The Beatles ,Rolling Stones, and one the most inspiring artists was Carlos Santana.

His mother ,aunts and uncles were very involved playing music at church and his Aunt Joan Locsin was the Musical Director at the family church. In the 90s hip hop and grunge music were his favorite genres to listen to but most of his early experiences learning to play and improvise were on Sunday mornings at church. He learned by ear then as he got deeper into music he enrolled himself at Laney College in 1999 and took a piano class. Music was calling him and he changed his focus to music and transferred to San Jose State University. He studied at SJSU under the late Jazz bassist John Shifflett, Frank Sumares, and Wayne Wallace. He has played bass for The Dana Salzman Band for the last 16 years. They have collaborated and backed Mike Marshall (aka Mike Meezy), Rappin 4tay, Samuelle (club noveau), Richard Bean (Malo band) , Equipto, Clifford Brown III , Doug Ellington and many more great artists. He has been playing Upright Bass with Legendary Jazz Harpist Destiny Muhammed for the last 10 years and shared the stage with legends like Richard Howell, Leon Joyce Jr, Tammy Hall, Tiffany Austin, Frederick Harris, just to name a few. On Feb 4 2023 it is going to be a funky night with a positive vibe.
