Abstract:
Unconventional operators have benefited from adopting a manufacturing/assembly-line approach, using standardized "playbooks" to simplify complex operations and approval processes. However, pad-to-pad variability often exceeds the options a playbook captures, and even where a suitable option exists, the number of interacting variables can make it difficult to identify. This presentation illustrates one such case. Simultaneous-fracturing operations have unlocked a step change in operators' capital efficiency. Nonetheless, whether it is possible and/or optimal to frac one, two, or three wells simultaneously depends heavily on specific geological, supply-chain, well-mixture, and operational circumstances. The value of moving beyond a one-size-fits-most approach is documented.
