SPE OKC October Monthly Luncheon
About this Event
Bryan Bottoms
Director of Geology at Detring Energy Advisors
Abstract:
The dynamic landscape of activity in the Mid-Continent continues to shift in a variety of ways. The Western Anadarko has reemerged as the most active play area of the Mid-Continent, something that hasn’t occurred since 2014. The shift in activity is driven largely by increased operator focus on the Cherokee and Red Fork plays. Consequently, the Pennsylvanian section of the stratigraphic column has reemerged as the predominant horizontal target, surpassing the Mississippian and Woodford – another trend not last observed since 2014. Renewed interest in the Mid-Continent has spurred numerous transactions in recent years and the landscape of operates across the region has changed. Horizontal activity is now dominated by a variety of private operators, many of which have long ties to the region. The renewed interest in the Mid-Continent is driven by the immense amount of play variety found throughout the area. Many new plays continue to be delineated while more mature plays continue to expand and provide further opportunities. Elsewhere in the Lower 48, similar play concepts to those being exploited in the Mid-Continent are being extrapolated to other basins with many predominant Mid-Continent operators playing a significant role in that exploration.
