SPE Improved Oil Recovery

“IOR: Critical Technologies of the Future,” is the theme of the 2024 conference. An objective recovery factor assessment of today’s producing oilfields would tell us the remaining potential to improve recovery is tremendous. Effectively employing IOR technologies is critical to the future of our industry. It’s time to get ambitious! We must increase the pace of IOR innovation, testing new ideas and adapting to the low carbon environment to be relevant in the future. At this conference, the top worldwide IOR talent will gather creating a catalyst for sharing and debating ideas, seeking the best technologies to improve the recovery and carbon footprint of oil and gas reservoirs around the world.

Our industry is tremendously innovative, entrepreneurial and traditionally rate-of-return focused. Our challenge is that IOR processes are typically more strategic in nature, with a unique economic cash flow profile, generally higher OPEX, and more challenging reserve booking scenarios compared to a traditional drilling project. We need to apply the mindset and innovation of the shale revolution to improving recovery factors using IOR processes. We only need to look at the tremendous progress reducing drilling cost/ft, and emissions as examples of what a singular focus can achieve. Let’s embrace the challenge!
