Short business meeting highlighting SPC’s activities in the past year followed by the presentation:
"RI’s Great White Sharks… and What About the Seals?" by Jon Dodd, Executive Director of the Atlantic Shark Institute.
Jon will discuss the presence of Great White Sharks in Rhode Island’s waters as well as their impact on local seal populations. While sharks are rarely seen in the ponds themselves, seals have a presence in some of the salt ponds especially near the breachways during the winter months. Additionally, he will discuss what shark researchers do and why their research is so important.
Jon is an experienced marine biologist who has spent his entire life on the water with a particular focus and affinity for sharks. Jon has caught and released more than 1,000 sharks and has tagged the majority of those sharks for a wide variety of research projects.
