About this Event
Join us on Saturday, 7th December, from 6-8 pm at the Glasgow Autonomous Space for the launch of the Spatial Justice publication. This thought-provoking work, inspired by Alex Wilde’s dissertation on "Urban Community Ownership, Spatial Planning, and Justice," explores how community ownership of land and physical assets can promote spatial justice at the neighbourhood level. Alex Wilde, Chair of Govanhill Baths Community Trust (GBCT), delves into the local impact of community-led ownership models.
The publication also builds on the efforts of the Glasgow Against Closures (GAC) campaign, co-founded by Fatima Uygun, CEO of GBCT, and Paula Larkin, Archive and Heritage Manager at GBCT. GAC was a grassroots coalition that brought together individuals, organisations, and unions to defend vital community spaces and services from closure, reduced hours, or asset transfers.
What to Expect:
- Be among the first to receive a copy of the Spatial Justice publication.
- A brief overview of themes including community ownership, public assets, and community-driven justice.
- A Q&A session with key contributors convened by Jude Mckechnie.
- Networking over hot drinks and seasonal treats.
This launch is supported by the Culture Collective Programme for Creative Scotland. We warmly welcome you to join this crucial conversation about public spaces, community services, and justice-driven change.
