About this Event

(SYMT) is the flagship music program of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C., launched in 2022. Created to support and elevate the careers of emerging Spanish musicians, SYMT fosters artistic exchange and professional growth through collaborations with leading U.S. music schools, universities, and festivals.

More than just a performance opportunity, SYMT offers a comprehensive international experience. Participating musicians take part in a dynamic array of complementary activities —including masterclasses, lectures, workshops, and networking events— designed to expand their artistic vision and build meaningful professional connections.

All featured artists are under the age of 33 and winners of the prestigious national award from Juventudes Musicales de España, a distinction that recognizes outstanding young musical talent.

About Rafael Quirant

Born in Valencia, Rafael Quirant is the great-grandson of the celebrated soprano Carmen Tur Melchor. He won first prize in the 2021 Juventudes Musicales de España Singing Competition and has worked alongside renowned artists such as Juan de la Rubia, Xavier Sabata, Núria Rial, and María Espada, among others. Among his most recent engagements is his participation in the Peralada Festival, where he performed Johann Adolf Hasse’s oratorio Sanctus Petrus et Sancta Maria Magdalena, accompanied by the Vespres d’Arnadí ensemble under the direction of Dani Espasa. He has also toured performing Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the ADDA Simfònica and the Orfeón Donostiarra.

Quirant is a member of the Baroque ensemble Il dolce incontro, a group dedicated to establishing itself among the leading ensembles on the national Baroque music scene. He has also collaborated with prominent orchestras such as the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra (Orquesta de Radio Televisión Española) and the Valencia Orchestra (Orquesta de Valencia). His repertoire focuses primarily on Baroque music, although he also performs works from the bel canto tradition, Spanish song, and the oratorio repertoire. His musical training includes studies at the CIAC in Vall d’Uixó, the Francesc Penyarroja Professional Conservatory of Music, and the Higher Conservatory of Music of Valencia, where he completed his higher education under the guidance of Ofelia Sala.

He has attended masterclasses and received guidance from distinguished artists such as Aurelio Viribay, Carles Budó, Carlos García, Carlos Chausson, Robert Expert, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Miquel Ortega, Xavier Sabata, Isabel Rey, José Madrid, Celsa Tamayo, and the legendary soprano Mariella Devia.

The best way to arrive is by public transportation. The closest Metro station is Columbia Heights (Green line). Limited metered and two-hour zoned parking is available in the surrounding neighborhoods. Public parking garage is available at DC USA Shopping Mall (Columbia Heights Metro Station).
