Meet Carmen Asteinza — The Cheese Whisperer

Carmen is a long-time North Shore resident and the founder of The Cheese Whisperer, an online and local business dedicated to celebrating exceptional cheeses from around the world.

She’s a first-generation Cuban-American, born and raised in New York City, and she grew up surrounded by vibrant food traditions that shaped her love for flavor, culture, and storytelling. Carmen has lived in Spain and France, trained professionally at the University of Vermont’s Institute for Artisan Cheese, and is an active member of the American Cheese Society.

Since 2014, she has served as a Certified Cheese Judge, refining her palate and evaluation skills for over a decade. As a cheesemonger and educator, Carmen is passionate about sharing the stories behind each cheese and teaching others how to pair them beautifully with wine, spirits, and specialty foods.
