About this Event
“Spanish Colonial Revival and Newer Spanish-Influenced Architecture” Bus Tour
Saturday, June 17th | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Tickets: $35 members | $45 nonmembers

The early 20th Century saw the birth of the “Spanish Colonial Revival” style in Southern California and has helped shape Pasadena’s cityscape. Influences from this style can be seen as early as the 1890s in the Moorish-designed Castle Green as well as from the 1920s in residential and commercial designs by architects such as Bertram Goodhue, Wallace Neff, and George Washington Smith. The popularity of this style does not seem to diminish with time as a 1980s renaissance of Spanish/Mediterranean “fusion” architecture has helped renew the cityscape into the new millennium with buildings such as the Del Mar station and newer apartments and condominiums. This tour will drive by many examples of Spanish-influenced architecture such as Caltech, City Hall, the Hillcrest neighborhood, and includes a special interior visit at the Pasadena Playhouse.
