Space is the Place presents An Intergalactic Night, an illustrious evening with performances in all kinds of genres and disciplines, from jazz, improv and classical to theater, art and philosophy. The house pianist is Ernst Glerum, who’s known as the double bass player of, among others, ICP Orchestra.
Joris Roelofs is known for his sublime bass clarinet technique and collaborations with top musicians from The Netherlands and New York. He chairs the jazz clarinet department at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and is working on his PhD in philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. His dissertation is on Nietzsche, Hannah Arendt, improvisation, and the notion of freedom.
Actress, singer, theater maker Joske Koning and improvising guitarist Jasper Stadhouders will present an excerpt of See Your Heart as a Rhythm: a theatre concert like a sonic hurricane that will make you rediscover your heart’s pulse. In this candid concert, the idiosyncratic duo will surrender to the transformations of the heart through free jazz, improvisation and physical performance.
Gemma Luz Bosch is a sound artist from Spain, currently based in The Netherlands. Her performance Sound of Clay expresses her fascination with the different timbres and textures that the natural material clay can produce. For this project she has developed various ceramic instruments, from water flutes to percussion instruments. The artist invites you to a journey through her sound palette.
A virtuoso on the French horn, an instrument strongly associated with classical orchestral music, Morris Kliphuis is one of the few players in the world dedicated to exploring its potential in improvised and experimental music, through electronics and extended techniques. Kliphuis rose to fame as a founding member of Kapok, which mixed elements of punk, rock and free improvisation.
