So… What Is Your Job, Anyway?
About this Event
Ever wondered what careers exist in coffee beyond working behind the bar?
Join North Star, Youth Academy and Well Grounded for a high-energy, honest and entertaining introduction to what people actually do in different coffee-industry jobs.
Five or six people from across the industry will each have just five minutes to explain their role: what they really do day to day, how they got started, what surprised them and which skills have proved most useful. Expect real stories, practical insights and no corporate careers-fair jargon.
Roles represented may include:
- Roastery and operations
- Career barista
- Wholesale account management and training
- Coffee-machine engineering
- Marketing
After the presentations, there’ll be time for informal networking, meeting the speakers and connecting with other people working in - or thinking about entering - the coffee industry.
Youth Academy students will also be running a decaf brew bar, with pizza and drinks available throughout the evening.
Who is it for?
This event is for anyone who wants to learn more about the roles and career paths available in coffee, including:
- Baristas and others currently working in entry-level coffee roles
- People considering a career in coffee
- Young people and career changers curious about the industry
- Anyone wondering what opportunities exist beyond working behind the bar
Whether you already work in coffee or you’re simply exploring what might come next, you’ll leave with a clearer, more realistic picture of the industry - and hopefully a few new connections too.
