Come out with your family and friends for the Sports Car Club of America – Southwest Louisiana region’s Autocross events in Lake Charles and Lafayette, Louisiana.SoWeLa region is a chapter of the Sports Car Club of America; a not for profit organization that is run entirely by local volunteers. SoWeLa has been rooted in Lake Charles for over 50 years now. We’re committed to promoting the spirit of friendship, competition, and sportsmanship through a passion for all things motorsports. Our club focuses on building long lasting memories, friendships, and family ties with whole generations participating and enjoying our events. We’re not just creating local memories, we’re creating a local pastime.
SoWeLa SCCA has classes available for almost any vehicle from American muscle to family sedans, trucks to imports, home built race cars to Formula cars, fresh off the lot stock to old barn finds and all vehicles in between. All you need to compete is a vehicle in safe working condition, valid drivers license, and a desire to have FUN!
Be sure to bring lots of water, sun screen, snacks, and anything else you may need. Loaner helmets are available free of charge. Kart drivers will need to provide their own jacket and neck brace. Canopies are encouraged especially for guests and grills are welcome. But remember, alcohol is prohibited from our events. Drivers are required to work different positions when their group isn’t running which usually requires you to stand for extended periods of time. If there is a medical reason that prevents or makes it difficult to do this please let us know so we may assign you a role that will better suit you.
Never Autocrossed before? Great! We want you! Come out and see what it’s all about. Our members are exceptionally friendly and helpful to each other especially to new people. We have a novice drivers meeting before every event where we explain the rules and basic strategies of Autocross. Need more help than that? No problem! Let us know and one of our more experienced drivers will walk you through every step of the day and answer all your question. Feeling a bit intimidated or unsure? Don’t worry, contact one of us ahead of time and we’ll answer any questions you may have.
Two drivers are allowed to compete per vehicle but you may not enter twice.
Guests and anyone interested in the sport are encouraged to come out and watch, ask questions, hang out with the drivers, visit with their friends and families, and to ride along for a lap or two. Most drivers are more than happy to take a passenger for a lap and its FREE! Kids 12 years old and up can ride along if both parents have signed our release which is available ahead of time if both parents can’t make it.
Schedule of the day:
7:00 a.m. Officers and main event staff start rolling in. All are welcome and appreciated to help set up.
8:00 a.m. Registration, merchandise sales, and greeting table open. Vehicle inspections start.
8:30 a.m. Course is opened for drivers to walk until the drivers meeting.
9:45 a.m. Novice drivers meeting
10:00 a.m. Registration and Vehicle inspections closes. Mandatory Drivers meeting.
10:30 a.m. First car is launched.
Around 3:45 p.m. Last car finishes and end of event activities begin. All drivers clean and pick up the course. Drivers pack their vehicles. Shortly after event awards are handed out and last announcements including post event location are made.
