About this Event
Southern Shores Community Conversation with Jarrett Key (Columbus, GA)
Join us in person for the Southern Shores Community Conversation in Columbus, GA at the Columbus Museum's Lampton Conference Room! The Chattahoochee River, and nearby lakes and streams trace the edges of this community and have shaped how Columbus works, what it values, and who it has become. But the stories that live at these shores and in these waters belong to you.
Artist Jarrett Key is coming to Columbus to listen to your stories. In this space together, we will all learn new stories or meet new people we may have otherwise not heard or known.
Join us for a community conversation where your memories, histories, and traditions take center stage. What do these waters mean to you? What myths have been passed down about this land? How are shifting environmental conditions changing life here? What would be lost if these stories were never told?
This is your chance to put Columbus's relationship to its shores on record, for your neighbors, your children, and generations to come.
Conversations will be audio and video recorded and will become part of a publicly accessible online archive, shared with local historical societies and libraries. Recordings may also be edited for use in Jarrett Key's artistic projects. By registering, you consent to being recorded.
Jarrett Key will be guiding a tour of Hair Painting No. 29 following the discussion.
Come as you are. Bring your stories.
If you can't make but you love this project, please donate to support to make this work acessible to communities across the south.
