About this Event
A landmark of observational documentary, Salesman follows four travelling Bible salesmen as they crisscross America, knocking on doors and chasing the elusive promise of a sale. Directed by the pioneering Maysles brothers, the film strips away any sense of glamour to reveal a quietly devastating portrait of hustle, rejection, and fragile hope.
At its centre is Paul “The Badger” Brennan, a weary, sharp tongued salesman whose dwindling success becomes a window into the emotional toll of life on the road. With no voiceover and no interference, the camera simply observes, capturing moments of awkward encounters, small humiliations, and fleeting victories with remarkable intimacy.
Both a time capsule of late 60s America and a timeless study of ambition under pressure, Salesman is as compelling as it is uncomfortable, an unflinching look at the human cost of chasing the American dream.
